Cleantech: About Carbogenics

Partners, Supporters and Awards

We have translated years of research into CreChar® .

Carbogenics is a University of Edinburgh spinout transforming years of research into CreChar® – a specialist biochar that enhances Anaerobic Digestion. Backed by scientific and commercial expertise, we develop sustainable biochars for a range of industrial applications.

Anaerobic Digestion

The majority of Anaerobic Digestion plants suffer from low performance. CreChar can enhance AD efficiency.

Wastewater Treatment

Our CreChar® AD enhancer increases the performance of anaerobic sludge treatment.

Construction

It enhances material strength and can be mixed with various building materials to enhance properties.

Agriculture

We aim to ensure that any spent carbon products can be used as plant fertiliser and soil amender in accordance with a circular economy future policy.
CreChar®

Case studies

Backed by scientific and commercial expertise, we develop sustainable biochars for a range of industrial applications.

CreChar Case Study – Site F

Site F operates a 4500m3 two stage semi-plug flow digester with a 1500m3 primary and 3000m3 secondary. The customer processes biogas via CHP engines into electricity with a capacity of 2 MW across 2 locations.

CreChar Case Study – Site E

Site E is a CHP site which operates a Marches Biogas Double Ring digester on a mix of feedstocks, including Potato Peelings, Potatoes, Vegetable Waste, Chicken Manure, and Liquid Sugar.

CreChar Case Study – Site D

Site D is a farm-based AD plant using predominantly farm and distillery wastes as well as some energy crop.

CreChar Case Study – Site C

Site C is a farm-based AD plant using energy crops, chicken manure, whole sugar beet on a seasonal basis and pot ale.

CreChar Case Study – Site B

Site B is a farm-based AD plant using ensiled maize, cattle manure and sugar beet pulp on a seasonal basis. The site has 2 primary tanks in parallel with a total volume of 9600m3. It is a 5MWth biomethane plant with a gas to grid cap of 500m3/hr.

CreChar Case Study – Site A

Site A is a farm-based AD plant using predominantly farm and distillery wastes as well as some energy crop. The site has 2 tanks in series with a total volume of 7000 m3 and generates 1.1MWe via 2 CHP engines.
